Job Purpose
The General Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the Velodrome. The position focuses on maintaining cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness while delivering a welcoming and inclusive experience for all visitors. From supporting events and programmes to assisting customers and maintaining equipment, the role contributes directly to high service standards and overall customer satisfaction.
Health, Safety & Compliance Responsibilities
Safety is a top priority at Modon facilities, and the General Assistant supports this by:

Ensuring the health and safety of customers, visitors, staff, and contractors at all times

Assisting with daily, weekly, and monthly statutory operational checks

Following Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures

Supporting critical incident management and escalating issues to the Duty Manager when required
-
Maintaining full compliance with Health & Safety regulations
Customer Service & Front-of-House Support
Delivering an excellent customer experience is central to this role. Key responsibilities include:

Providing a friendly and professional welcome to all customers and visitors
-
Acting as a main point of contact for enquiries, complaints, and documentation
-
Resolving customer concerns with empathy and professionalism
-
Supporting reception and customer service functions as needed
-
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Velodrome facilities, events, and programmes
Operations & Facility Support
The General Assistant also supports operational readiness across the venue by:

Assisting with cleaning and tidying of indoor and outdoor areas
-
Setting up and dismantling equipment for sessions, events, and programmes
-
Issuing hired equipment and fleet bikes to customers
-
Monitoring locker usage and bike storage areas
-
Collecting, cleaning, and preparing equipment kits for reuse
-
Assisting with inspection and basic maintenance of bikes and equipment
Sales, Promotion & Teamwork
In addition to operational tasks, the role involves:

Upselling Velodrome products and services in line with customer needs
-
Supporting outreach and promotional activities
-
Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth operations
-
Supporting inclusivity and accessibility, including assisting People of Determination
-
Working flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and event days
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Preferred Qualifications
-
Fluency in English (additional languages are an advantage)
-
First Aid at Work and Defibrillator training preferred
Experience & Competencies

Experience in a busy, customer-facing environment

Knowledge of Health & Safety practices in leisure or event settings

Strong communication, customer service, and upselling skills

Ability to work independently while maintaining high service standards
